Phyllostachys parvifolia is a spectacular Bamboo species. It is taller than Phyllostachys bissetii and yet it is just as hardy. This species' size is very impressive with large diameter stocks that reach high into the sky at an average of 20 feet, but can grow up to 40 feet tall on the west coast!

New culms are dark green, paling with age, with a white ring appearing under each node. New shoots are edible. Leaves are relatively small for a bamboo of the genus Phyllostachys.

Like water bamboo, the rhizomes and roots of this species have air canals as an adaptation for living in wetter soil (not standing water - it does like good drainage).

In USDA Climate Zones expect the following mature size culm heights:

Zone 7 – up to 40 feet
Zone 6 – 20 feet
Zone 5 – 12 feet
Zone 4 – 8 feet

Gain a hardiness zone with winter cover. Loves Nettle Tea as a fertilizer.
