Native to Asia, Firecracker Goji berry is grown for its sweet, red berries. Firecracker is a dwarf & self fertile variety of goji that produces a massive amount of fruit, for a shrub of its size. Everbearing, Firecracker goji berry can provide up to 3 crops a year. The fleshy berries are ellipsoid or ovoid in shape and are 1-2 cm long. Fruits can be eaten fresh, or dry as a snack.
Firecracker has deep green foliage, with purple flowers, bloom July to September. It grows to 3 ft tall and wide, working well as a specimen, or in a container. It has an extensive root system, and can be planted to stabilize sandy banks.
Goji berries are traditionally consumed for their flavour, and medicinal properties in Chinese, Korean, Tibetan and Japanese cultures. They can also be used in tonics, tisanes, wines and beers, or paired with meats.
