Askola female sea buckthorn requires the male species (Hippophae rhamnoides ‘Pollmix’) nearby to produce fruit. Typical orchards have 1 male for every 7 female plants. With orange berries and attractive grayish green foliage is the feature in the fall and winter months. Berries are used to make jellies, juices, purees, and sauces. Berries are realy high in vitamin C (400 mg/100 g). The leaves, flowers, seeds, and fruits are also used to make medicine.
