Native to Asia, Red Japanese quince is a vigorous wide-spreading shrub with tangled, spiny branches. Clusters of beautiful deep red flowers bloom from April to May. Glossy deep green foliage sprouts from stems growing to 8 ft tall and 6 ft wide. This large deciduous shrub produces apple-like aromatic fruit which is good for making jelly and compotes.
